Sobering fact of the day:
27% of the 17-24 year olds in our country are “too fat to fight.” That is, over one quarter of our young adults are literally ineligible to serve in the military because of their weight.
We have actually reached a point where retired military generals are petitioning Congress to give the government the power to regulate the nutritional content of our school lunch programs.
Read the brief report; the statistics are staggering. In my state of Illinois, overweight residents would have to drop, on average, 39 pounds each to bring our state back to average weight.
Thirty nine pounds each!
To say that we’ve gone soft as a society here is an understatement.
But don’t worry, the issue may soon self-correct. Turns out, we’ve also got a looming phosphorus shortage which will severely impede our ability to grow food in just a few short decades because phosphorus is a key ingredient in fertilizer.
So I guess that’s good news, right? Our kids and grandkids will all be superskinny because they only food left for them to eat will be grass?
And Twinkies?
I can’t wait.
