Is Saving Your Life Worth the Cost of a Honda?

August 19, 2010

Though I generally write this blog with the optimistic view that “anything’s possible,” I’m not so naive to think that’s always the case. I recently sat down with Michael Plan, who helps people overcome addiction, and talked about what the world looks like for people who are not in a position to help themselves—people for whom very little is possible until they get serious help. Michael heads up LifeSkills Authorities, an addiction treatment program that could prove to be 70% more effective than the current, standard program. (We’ll see what the numbers say when the testing’s done.) I believe that in a world as prone to extremes as ours has become, serious problems such as addiction are inevitable. Because those issues are beyond my capacity to help, I asked Michael if he would share an overview of his program with my readers; I hope that you, in turn, will share it with others, and not stop until this message finds its mark. Here is what he sent in. —Jason Seiden

I have attended far too many funerals resulting from addiction. Countless stories exist of how alcohol and drugs have destroyed lives and communities. This is an unnecessary reality.

Amazing addiction treatment facilities are available yet without proper counsel, alcoholics and addicts may end up at places inappropriate for their diagnoses. Many also incorrectly believe that a 30-day treatment program is the solution to addiction. Often the addict leaves treatment only to relapse while trying to assimilate to sober life and its realities upon return home. In some cases, multiple relapses occur that destroy families and the hope for recovery. Tragedy has become the expectation for addiction sufferers and those who love them.

LifeSkills Authorities (LSA) is changing how addiction is treated; providing hope to addicts, their families, and employers. LSA consults with families and businesses to deliver an effective solution once a problem is identified. After stabilization through effective treatment, a comprehensive model of recovery coaching mobilizes a team of professionals to envelop the addicted individual with true holistic care, while maintaining high levels of accountability and support.

As LSA founder and program director, I am passionate and optimistic about changing the conventional reality of low addiction recovery rates. A LSA clientele study is expected to surpass 80% success. Compared with accepted methods achieving as low as 10%, this is profound and expected to revolutionize addiction treatment. I assure you, untimely death by addiction is preventable with the right help. For the cost of a Honda someone can protect their investment in treatment to ultimately save their life.
