I think it’s safe to assume that almost all of us have heard the “bowl of sugar” analogy as it relates to love… I remember hearing it myself as a kid from my parents.
As a refresher, it goes like this:
“Love is not like a bowl of sugar that goes away when I give it to someone.” The add-on sentence provides context: “When I tell your sister (or brother) I love her, it doesn’t mean I have less love for you.”
The statement is true.
But.
You know what is like a bowl of sugar is time. Give it away once, that moment of time is gone forever. More than that, the people you don’t give your time to? They notice.
And.
They draw a conclusion about you. They draw simple conclusions about who and what you love based on how you spend your time.
So be careful.
When it comes to love, the emotion you feel may be limitless and nothing at all like a bowl of sugar, but arguably the most basic physical expressions of it—the spending of time—very much is like that bowl of sugar.
Just something to think about.
