If you missed my appearance on FOX’s Chicago morning show—like, say, because maybe you live in Long Island NY, or Marin County, California—here it is, below.
And, if there’s anyone out there who’s ready to throw in the towel on your day job and try this television stuff which looks so easy, let me share a little secret with you: It doesn’t matter what you do—if you want to be good, the work never ends. Within minutes of this piece airing, I got a call from a media-savvy friend of mine, reminding me to (1) hit it harder right out of the gate and (2) remember to stay open—no clasped hands. (He didn’t say anything about the Psycho Eyes I have at :47 in, maybe he was being charitable?)
Lesson: before you switch jobs/careers, put some effort into making yourself great in your current position. You probably have a lot more to learn than you realize.

I enjoyed the TV segment (pretty clever pointing out you have psycho eyes in 0:47….now everyone will watch!) I especially liked the point about “knowing your value” — this doesn’t get pointed out enough when it comes to job-seeking advice. Keeping it short and simple is also great advice. After all, you’re selling yourself….if you feel that you’ve made the sale, shut your mouth and run! You only have chances to undo what you’ve already accomplished.
Good job on the show and thanks!
Stay off the job boards…the number one factor accounting for double-digit increases in the average length of unemployment is the reliance on job boards.
