In honor of this week’s historic inauguration, I thought it would be fitting to kick off a two-week how-to clinic on handling politics. Not Washington politics. That would be futile. Rather, the kind of interpersonal politics we all deal with on a regular basis.
The reason to do this is to help you become more effective in all areas of your life. This advice will make you a more convincing negotiator and a more savvy interpersonal operator. It will also make you more adaptable, better able to see “real issues” in emotionally-clouded discussions, and more attentive as a listener.
It will help you approach others with a curious, open mind.
Why would you want that? Because being curious allows you to get what you want without sacrificing your morals, your values, or ethics. It helps you outmaneuver those who play political games without becoming a game player yourself.
And who doesn’t want that?!
