Passion in Plain English

November 14, 2011

Are you passionate? Or just intense?

When you get going on a pet topic, do people flock to you? Do they leave your discussions Energized? Excited? Eager to go do something? That’s passion. You know you’re being passionate if you find people attracted to you personally and interested in your cause.

On the other hand, if people react to you by giving you your space, that’s intensity. Intensity is all the power of passion, with none of the forward momentum.

Intensity often freaks people out. Passion excites them.

Are you passionate? Or just intense?

The answer can be found in the reaction of the people you interact with.

Well put, Jason. A good article for anyone who mistakes their own intensity for passion and wonders why no one gets as excited as they do. At least by identifying that they may in fact be a bit too intense for people’s tasts, they might be able to realise that they should release their passion/intensy in a different manner. Good work.

@t2—Thanks… my observation is that most people look to their own emotions rather than the emotions the elicit in others from guidance… when flipping that would make them far more effective!
