Now if you–or your parents–need further clarity on these issues, or if you have similar questions in the same vein, please call me. I will be glad to answer them. My phone number is 312 224-4697 and I charge $350 an hour for career consultations.
It will be worth every penny.
And if, in an interview, you are asked about the most difficult decision you ever had to make, and the only thing you can think of is that time when you let your sister take your favorite t-shirt on a camping trip, say this: “I have been fortunate in that I haven’t been tested that way. I have also been unfortunate in that I haven’t been tested. While I can’t do anything about the way my parents raised me, I can take control of my life moving forward. I look forward to developing the skills needed to lead, including the tact and common sense to handle the rough weather that occasionally rips through teams.” You’ll still get pegged as a ROOKIE, but at least you won’t embarrass yourself by compounding the problem with a demonstrated lack of self-awareness.
