Tag… I’m it!

November 21, 2008

It’s 1980, the summer after 1st grade. We’re running all over the playground, and my friend slips. I’m right behind him, and go in for the kill:

“Tag… you’re it!”

Without stopping, I sprint to the swirly slide and run up it. I jump over a short wall, run across the top of the monkey bars that extend out toward the swings (I know; it’s hard to believe I’m still alive, right?) , wait for my chaser, and when he’s halfway over the wall, I leap down and take off into the crowd… I pass an adult sitting on a bench with an infant, and I wonder to myself I hope I never reach an age where I’m too old for a jungle gym. I hope I’m never that person!

Well, the body doesn’t quite fit on the jungle gym anymore, but the spirit still loves to play.

And much to my pleasant surprise, the game of tag is still on!

Kari Quaas of Coolworks is the one who got me… @kariquaas if you’re inclined to live on Twitter. What I like about Kari is that she finds people work. At cool places like ski resorts. (Mmm… skiing.) And that she makes her Q’s like Ramona Quimby. (That’s Ramona the Pest, for all y’all fellow Xers.) Plus that she tagged me. ;) Thanks for bringing me into the fold, Kari. May you have only good karma.

Now, here’s how tag works, blogosphere-style… when you’re tagged:

1. Link your original tagger(s), and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself in the post – some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names and the links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs and/or Twitter.

Strange but true:

  1. When I was 7, I got locked in the reptile house at the Lincoln Park zoo.
  2. I laid the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during my 8th grade school trip to Washington, D.C… with the girl who would later become my wife.
  3. My performance as Jerry in a high school directing project of Zoo Story brought at least one audience member to tears.
  4. I am an avid skier and will explode if I go a season without strapping on the sticks at least once.
  5. My last condo was haunted by a ghost who liked to help us clean up.
  6. My favorite food in Philly: banana cream pie from American Diner (CLOSED), chix shwarma from Rami’s food truck, tomato pie from Allegro’s, banana walnut pancakes from Diner on the Square (CLOSED), gold-leaf covered chocolate cake from Le Bec Fin (DIFFERENT).
  7. I peaked socially at 11 years old… it’s been a long, downhill slide ever since.

Now tagged:

  1. Kari Quaas (CoolWorks) — Finding people seasonal work in some of my favorite, favorite, favorite places on earth.
  2. Laurie Ruettimann (Punk Rock HR) — HR with a refreshingly go-stick-it ‘tude.
  3. Willy Franzen (One Day One Job) — The 1st stop for 1st time & non-executive job seekers
  4. Winston Wolf (Fallacy of Teamwork) — A man after my own heart on so many levels
  5. David Rees (Reesonance) — I love this guy because he put together the phrase “crunchy shell of erudition”
  6. Kris Dunn (HRCapitalist) — With the government nationalizing banking, I’m not sure we are capitalist anymore. But I am sure Kris is a solid guy to follow online.
  7. Jacob Share (JobMob) — My international addition to the list… and another popular stop for job seekers!

Have fun, y’all!

Dude, I am such a narcissist. That’s not a random fact: it’s true.
