Abstract: Leaders are always looking forward, and keeping their followers occupied doing the same. Leaders don’t pick fights because fights draw attention away from forward motion. They seek to keep as much energy directed forward as possible. But when a fight is inevitable, leaders fight to win.
People within an organization look upwards for their cues on how much of themselves to invest, and if a leader is not passionate, or tries to fake passion, then followers quickly learn to go through the motions.
Abstract: Event at the highest levels, leaders have responsibility without authority. “To suggest that a leader ever controls the environment would be like suggesting the skier ever controls the mountain.”
