Using Sun Tzu’s The Art of War to Achieve Peace & Prosperity

August 31, 2009

Here’s a question… what’s the proper response to someone who says, “War, ugh! Can’t you think of a better metaphor to use for business?!”

I’ve been struggling with this one a bit. Here are the options I’ve come up with so far:

  1. A silent, penetrating, 1,000 yard stare.
  2. “You clearly haven’t read the book.”
  3. “Can’t you think of something more intelligent to do than to judge a book by it’s cover?”
  4. “Yes.”
  5. “Yes, but because of your judgmental attitude, I’m going to now augment the war metaphor with sports analogies, too.”
  6. “Very good point. But before you judge, check out Thomas Huynh giving his Sun Tzu presentation at Google. If anyone brings balance to Sun Tzu’s ideals, it’s Thomas. Then we can talk.”

I’m thinking it’s a toss up between #1 and #6.

What about you?
